Are StartUps Ready For Their Close-up?

Entrepreneurs are being asked to send in a video pitch about their business to Startups Britain, who will then choose five business owners to make a film about their first 50 days, with the winning film garnering a package worth more than £5,000, including publicity, mentoring, equipment, marketing and IT support for the owner.
Called Confessions of a StartUp, the competition is aiming to discover what life is really like for startups in 2013, when record numbers of people are starting their own business.
In fact, the number who registered their business in 2012 was almost 10 per cent up on the year before and the number of people aged between 18 and 29 engaged in early stage entrepreneurial activity has increased by a staggering 50 per cent since 2010.
As the organisers said, the first days of a new business are incredibly busy while the owners find funding, office space, IT solutions and employees and work on new products or services, so the film would make interesting viewing for anyone contemplating emulating the entrepreneurs in the film.
The competition is looking for entries from all start-up sectors including retail, tech, food and services and anyone can enter as long as they are a UK citizen or legal immigrant.
Interested business owners must post their video clip online on StartUp Britain’s website by 1 April if they want a chance to be picked to go through to the final five, who will be asked to film the highs and the challenges of starting up a fledging business over 50 days.
Four winners will be chosen by the judging panel and a social media wildcard vote will determine the fifth. The winners will be announced on 8 April and will be given 50 days from April 12th to make their film.
The five movies will be premiered at a secret pop-up film premiere in London on June 14th, where one lucky start-up will receive a start-up Oscar and the prize package at a glittering red carpet ceremony.
