Entrepreneurial Spirit is Alive and Kicking

Posted on 4th September 2012

Findings from a recent national survey have revealed that UK employees are demonstrating entrepreneurial spirit, despite the tough economic climate.

The Job Security Index has reported that should employees be made redundant from their current position, twenty-eight percent would consider starting their own businesses, whilst fifty-three percent would consider working on a self-employed basis.

Those who are reportedly showing the most entrepreneurial spirit, are the younger generations, with a quarter of eighteen to twenty-four year olds admitting if they were unemployed they would start their own business; whilst thirty-two percent of twenty-five to thirty-four year olds, have said they would also look to start their own business should their current employment status change.

A spokesperson behind the research said: “Being unemployed can often be the trigger that some people need to follow their dreams of starting their own business. So it is great to see from our research findings that as a nation so many of us still have a strong entrepreneurial spirit, especially given the on-going economic backdrop.”

In addition to showing the entrepreneurial spirit is alive and kicking within the younger generation, the results also revealed that within the West Midlands, as many as thirty percent of the workforce would contemplate becoming an entrepreneur and starting their own business, should they become redundant in their current workplace.

Although the results of the research prove positive for the entrepreneurial spirit within the UK, starting a business can be difficult, with many hoops and obstacles in the way; however, with the right guidance and support – such as that offered by Nicklin Business Starter, there is no reason why if you’re starting a business, you cannot become a success.
