Entrepreneurs Urged To Pitch Products

For the second year in a row, start-up companies are being asked to pitch their products to retail buyers as part of a StartUp Britain and John Lewis PitchUp opportunity.
Last year’s PitchUp saw 400 start-ups compete for 12 opportunities to get in front of a buyer, but this year, in addition to the pitching, the organisers are searching to find iconic and innovative British products to feature in John Lewis as part of the retail giant’s 150th anniversary celebrations next year.
One of the greatest challenges for inventors and entrepreneurs is getting their products in front of big buyers, so the competition could give them the opportunity of finding out what it is like to work with such people.
In addition, John Lewis is keen to discover unique and innovative designs to sell to their customers and wants to support the lucky entrepreneurs who win one of the 12 places.
The winners will also benefit from mentoring, practical guidance and assistance spanning key development areas including design, pricing and packaging to help ensure a final product that is ready for sale.
Out of the applicants, 100 will be shortlisted and given brief feedback on their online application, and 12 will be selected to pitch their products to a buying panel on April 9th.
They will receive individual feedback on their product and pitch, and an hour-long mentoring session with a relevant buyer in the weeks after the event. However, applicants need to get their application in by midnight on 10 March.
The PitchUp competition is part of a wider initiative to help retail-ready start-ups get onto the high street. StartUp Britain’s campaign’s retail arm PopUp Britain is opening empty shops to start-up businesses to co-fund and co-work in the space.
