Small Business, Local Buzz
Posted on 5th March 2014
A new six-week campaign and competition called Small Business, Local Buzz was launched last week to help British start-ups and business owners with funding.
The competition offers £20,000 of funding to eligible parties and winners will be selected through a combination of online votes and a judging panel with representatives from sponsors Intuit and StartUp Britain.
Meanwhile, as part of Intuit’s pledge to the Government-backed GREAT Business Exchange, the firm is offering ten £1,000 cash awards and one £10,000 grand prize during the campaign. Submissions opened last week and close on March 30. The overall winner of the £10,000 will be announced on 4 April 2014.
The Business Exchange seeks to link the growing number of new businesses in the UK with bigger, more established corporates, in order to help small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) get to the next level. The initiative makes it easier for the small business community to understand and take advantage of the range of pledges on offer from big businesses.
Last year, Intuit’s programme to help small firms was called Love Our Local Business, which generated more than thirty thousand votes online. However, the sponsors expect the number to be eclipsed this year.
To participate, businesses need to enter a ‘wish’ on the ‘support small business’ website outlining why they believe they should qualify for funding, and then use social channels to drum up support from their customers and supporters to vote for them.
Qualifying organisations must be run by someone over the age of 18, be officially registered with Companies’ House and have fewer than 50 employees. There is a maximum one entry per organisation.
